Gillespie promoted to Woodbine Standardbred Race Secretary

MILTON, June 19, 2024 – Woodbine Entertainment today announced the promotion of Jim Gillespie to Standardbred Race Secretary at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

The promotion of Gillespie comes as Tony O’Sullivan, current Race Secretary, is set to depart from Woodbine as of Friday, July 5.

“We want to thank Tony for his contributions to Woodbine over the last two years,” said Bill McLinchey, Vice-President of Standardbred Racing. “We wish Tony nothing but the best as he embarks on a new career path.”

Gillespie has been the Assistant Race Secretary since November 2020. A lifelong industry participant, Gillespie spent several years driving and working with his father, trainer Tim Gillespie, before joining the Race Office.

“Jim is a great replacement for Tony, having had time to grow in our Race Office,” said McLinchey. “Anyone that’s spoke or dealt with Jim knows he has a great knowledge and passion for the sport and we’re confident he’ll succeed in his new role.”

Gillespie will oversee the daily duties of the Standardbred Race Office, including all draws for Woodbine Mohawk Park and Grand River Raceway.

Gillespie will officially begin his new position on Monday, July 8.
