TORONTO, October 5, 2025 – Cy Fair fashioned a devastating turn of foot to propel her to victory in Sunday’s $175,000 bet365 Algonquin Stakes at Woodbine.
Cy Fair broke sharply but was taken out of the early scramble by Sahin Civaci to sit last of six as Highwaytothemoon, Gypsy Art and Shak Town duked it through an opening panel in :22.56 on an inner turf listed as firm.
The lead trio continued to match strides coming off the turn for home in the five-furlong inner turf race for 2-year-olds, but Cy Fair, who by then had moved into prime striking position, glided into contention straightening for the wire.
Set loose by Civaci, Cy Fair rocketed past her rivals with little urging in early stretch and went on to notch a 3 ¼-length triumph. Casson was second, 1 ¼ lengths clear of Gypsy Art. Highwaytothemoon was fourth. Rogue Legend was scratched.
The final time was :56.39.
“She has a strong heart – you could see her pin her ears at horses,” said Civaci, who won last year’s Algonquin with Mi Bago. “She likes the competition, I could tell.”
It was the first stakes win for the George Weaver-trained Cy Fair, a daughter of Not This Time out of the Arch mare Remarqued, who won her July 10 debut, a 5 ½-furlong turf race at Saratoga, by 3 ¼ lengths.
Last time out, she was second in the Bolton Landing Stakes on August 17 at Saratoga.
“I watched her replays and I felt like it wouldn’t matter if I come off the pace or be on the front,” said Civaci. “I felt like she would be much the best in this field.
Owned by Swinbank Stables, LLC, Medallion Racing and Mark Stanton, Cy Fair, a $185,000 purchase at the 2025 OBS Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training, was bred in Kentucky by Marc Keller.
She paid $4.10 for today’s win.
