Logan Park establishes new Track and Canadian record in Mohawk Free For All

MILTON, July 4, 2023 – Logan Park stopped the clock in 1:50.3 in Tuesday’s $42,000 Free For All Trot at Woodbine Mohawk Park to set a new Canadian record for an older male trotter.

The five-year-old gelding scored a 5 ½ length victory over five rivals to set the new Track and Canadian Record. The 1:50.3 mile breaks the previous mark of 1:50.4 set by Mister Herbie (2012) and matched by Musical Rhythm (2019), Guardian Angel As (2019) and Locatelli (2022).

Doug McNair guided Logan Park to victory for trainer Des Tackoor and owners Outofthepark Stable, Reg Higgs and Arpad Szabo. The five-year-old has been a stable star for the Fellows barn, posting 18 career victories and earnings of over $850,000.

The Free For All contest saw HP Mama B shoot out to the lead, posting a :27 opening-quarter. Logan Park moved out from third early in the backstretch, marching to the lead at the half in :56.1. The 1/5 favourite then posted a :27.1 third-quarter (1:23.2) before powering home in :27.1 for the record mile.

Patriarch Hanover finished second, while Perfetto edged HP Mama B for third.

Logan Park now has six wins in eight starts this season.

Tuesday evening’s first race also saw a speed record. Tokyo Seelster trotted an opening-quarter of :26, the fastest opening-quarter ever trotted at Woodbine Mohawk Park. Tokyo Seelster ultimately finished third behind winner Franks Angel, who posted a new career-best of 1:51.3.

Live racing resumes Thursday evening at Woodbine Mohawk Park. Post time is 7 p.m.
