MacDonald surpasses $50 million

MILTON, September 8, 2022 – Canada’s leading driver James MacDonald reached the major career milestone of $50 million in career earnings on Thursday evening at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

Entering Thursday’s card just over $4,000 away from the milestone, MacDonald guided two-year-old pacing filly Dewitt This Moment to a 20-1 upset victory in the fourth-race to surpass $50 million mark. Dewitt This Moment is owned by Paul Ritchie and trained by Jim Ritchie.

A resident of Guelph, Ontario, MacDonald is currently on pace to lead the nation in wins and earnings for a second consecutive year.

MacDonald drove the winners of $7.5 million in 2021 on his way to earning a first O’Brien Award as Canada’s Driver of the Year. He is currently trending towards eclipsing that number, sitting at $6.4 million for 2022 with over a quarter of the season remaining.

Along with his nation leading numbers, MacDonald is also on pace to capture his second consecutive Woodbine driving title. He currently holds a near 60-win lead with 259 victories.

The next milestone on MacDonald’s radar is 3,000 wins, as Thursday’s milestone victory was win number 2,933 for the Prince Edward Island native.

Woodbine congratulates James MacDonald on surpassing $50 million in career earnings.
