Mohawk set for stakes heavy weekend

MILTON, August 18, 2025 – The true heart of the 2025 stakes season at Woodbine Mohawk Park is being entered this weekend with Grand Circuit events on both Friday and Saturday.
The $485,000 William Wellwood (G1) and $385,000 Peaceful Way (G1) finals for two-year-old trotters will be the main events of the weekend this Saturday night.
The Wellwood eliminations saw Magic Punk (trainer Ake Svanstedt) deliver a strong win, while Ardonne (trainer Megan Scran) edged Cambridge Hanover (trainer Andrew Harris) in an exciting showdown to set themselves up as the headliners in Saturday’s richest race.
The Peaceful Way did not require eliminations and will see a field of 11 square off. The undefeated One Belle (trainer Matt Bax) and Ontario Sires Stakes co-record holder Bingo Night (trainer Dustin Jones) will take plenty of the spotlight going into the race.
The post positions have already been drawn for both the Wellwood and Peaceful Way.
The remainder of this weekend’s stakes races will be drawn on Tuesday, with the entry box closing that morning at 10:30 a.m.
The Canadian Pacing Derby (G1) and Maple Leaf Trot (G1) eliminations will happen this weekend, bringing the sport’s top open performers to town. The Nassagaweya (G3) and Eternal Camnation (G3) offer a look at two-year-old pacers, while the Casual Breeze (G3) will showcase sophomore trotting fillies.
