Stakes Season Begins with Beau Jangles Return Saturday at Mohawk
SBOA eliminations and Jackpot Hi-5 Mandatory Payout part of busy weekend

MILTON, May 6, 2026 – The highly anticipated three-year-old season debut of the undefeated Beau Jangles highlights this Saturday’s racing action at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
The SBOA Stakes for Ontario sired three-year-olds will see eliminations contested Friday and Saturday at the Campbellville oval to kick-off stakes season. Each of the four SBOA events required a pair of $25,000 eliminations. The top-five finishers from each advance to the finals on May 16.
BEAU IS BACK
Canadian and U.S. Horse of the Year Beau Jangles will make his season debut in the SBOA 3-Year-Old Colt & Gelding Pace on Saturday (Race 7).
The Dr. Ian Moore trained son of Cattlewash put together a dream 12 for 12 two-year-old season, posting marquee wins in the Grade 1 Metro Pace and Grade 1 Breeders Crown. He also was the Ontario Sires Stakes Super Final champion as part of the incredible $1.6 million earning season.
Beau Jangles prepped for his three-year-old debut with a pair of qualifiers at Southern Oaks Training Center in Sorrento, Florida. Bob McClure takes his usual spot behind the undefeated colt.
Tilthecowscomehome raced in the shadow of Beau Jangles throughout 2025, but did rack up more than $370,000 in earnings and was an O’Brien Award finalist. Saturday serves as another opportunity for the Carl Jamieson trainee to try and steal the spotlight as he is one of six rivals taking on the Horse of the Year.
The second elimination (Race 9) for 3-Year-Old Pacing Colts & Geldings shook out as a wide-open affair.
Mike Vanderkemp trainee Windor is the slight 2-1 morning-line favourite. The son of Bulldog Hanover won the Grade 3 Champlain Stakes last season and was second to Beau Jangles in the OSS Super Final.
The field also includes John Pentland trainee Redland Rocket Man, who earned over $178,000 last season, and Ron Burke student Dax Seelster, who won a leg of the Kindergarten Series at The Meadowlands.

STROBE LITE READY TO SHINE
The SBOA 3-Year-Old Colt & Gelding Trot attracted 13 entrants, including O’Brien Award winner Strobe Lite.
The Ben Baillargeon trained Strobe Lite won the OSS Super Final last season and was notably third in the Grade 1 William Wellwood Memorial. The son of Alarm Detector posted three wins, nine top three finishes and earned $379,921 in 11 starts.
Strobe Lite has qualified three-times ahead of his season debut. OSS Gold winner Touchedbyanangel serves as a main competitor to the O’Brien Award winner in Saturday’s first elimination (Race 2).
The second elimination (Race 3) features OSS Gold winners Mike Me Up and In The Black, along with OSS Grassroots Final winner L P Bay.

FILLIES BATTLE FRIDAY
The SBOA elimination weekend starts Friday with eliminations for the Filly Pace and Filly Trot events.
A total of 16 three-year-old pacing fillies were entered for Friday’s eliminations with plenty of star power amongst the group. The headliners of Friday’s Filly Pace splits are listed below:
- Three Diamonds (Grade 1) winner Shes A Bulldog makes her season debut in the first elimination for trainer Ron Burke.
- Jack Darling trainee Daya, winner of the Battle of the Belles and Eternal Camnation (Grade 3), will make her three-year-old debut in the first split.
- Grand Circuit winner Jen Tilly (Grade 3 Eternal Camnation) makes her third start of the season in the second elimination for the Burke stable.
- O’Brien Award winner A Clean Deal, who won six of seven starts at two and was the OSS Super Final champion, will make her sophomore debut in the second split for trainer Kyle Fellows.
The SBOA 3-Year-Old Filly Trot received 20 entries to set up two full fields for Friday’s eliminations. The top names for Fridays’ Filly Trot divisions are listed below:
- Paul Reid trainee Flowing Tribute, who won four OSS Gold divisions last season, must overcome post 10 in Friday’s first elimination.
- OSS Grassroots Final winner Blue JeanGal makes her season debut in the first split for trainer Julie Walker after winning seven of nine starts as a rookie.
- Multiple OSS Gold division winner Cher Hill makes her first start at age three in the second elimination for trainer Gregg McNair.
- Rick Zeron student Cupid Hall, who was second in the OSS Super Final, lines up in the second elimination off a win in her season debut.

JACKPOT HI-5 MANDATORY PAYOUT SATURDAY
Horseplayers will want to take note of a Jackpot Hi-5 mandatory payout scheduled for Saturday’s final race (Race 12).
The Jackpot Hi-5 carryover currently sits at $183,866.04 heading into the next card of live racing on Friday, which serves as the final chance to play ahead of the mandatory payout.
An overflow field of 12 will compete in Saturday’s Hi-5 race (Race 12 – 10:56 p.m.)
The Jackpot Hi-5 requires horseplayers to select the top five finishers in order. A horseplayer can only win the entire jackpot if they hold the only winning ticket for that evening’s wager. If there are multiple winning tickets, half the pool is paid out, while the other half is added to the carryover.
Post time on Friday and Saturday at Woodbine Mohawk Park is 6:30 p.m.
